Genesis Hospitals Awarded “A” Grades For Patient Safety By Hospital Safety Score
Genesis Medical Center, Davenport and Genesis Medical Center, Silvis have each been awarded “A” grades from Hospital Safety Score.
Hospital Safety Score is a quality and safety monitoring program of The Leapfrog Group (Leapfrog), an independent industry watchdog.
The Hospital Safety Score is calculated twice each year under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel using publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections. U.S. hospitals were assigned an A, B, C, D, or F for their safety.
Hospital Safety Score rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.
"This is a recognition of all employees at Genesis who have worked so hard together to provide the safest environment possible for patients,'' said Doug Cropper, President and CEO, Genesis Health System. "We have made patient safety a system-wide priority and involved every employee in our safety goals.’’
“As patients begin to take a more active role in selecting where to receive health care, it has never been more important to focus on hospital safety and transparency. The ‘A’ hospitals like Genesis are helping us raise the standards of health care nationwide,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate Genesis Medical Centers for their safety excellence and hope the Genesis hospitals will continue to strive for an ever-increasing level of excellence in patient safety.”

Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,500 general U.S. hospitals were assigned scores this fall. A full analysis of the data and methodology used is available at www.hospitalsafetyscore.org.
