Genesis Awards $156,000 in Nursing Scholarships
The Genesis Health Services Foundation recently awarded $156,500 in scholarships at the annual Distinguished Nurse Lecture.
The Virginia Pilcher Scholarship of $4,000 was awarded to Amy Fox, RN, BSN, an operating room nurse who is working toward her MSN. This scholarship was established in 1989 in recognition of the high standard of excellence in nursing established and exemplified by Virginia L. Pilcher, R.N., as Vice President and Director of the Department of Nursing for Mercy Hospital during her 43 years of employment.
Additionally, $2,500 degree completion scholarships were awarded to thirty-seven nurses employed by Genesis who are working toward BSN, MSN or DNP (Doctorate of Nursing Practice) degrees.
The DeWitt Foundation awarded three scholarships to nurses who are working toward degrees.
“We’re very proud of all of our nurses who are continuing their educations for the benefit of the patients we serve,’’ said Jackie Anhalt, MS, MSN, RN-BC, chief nursing executive, Genesis Health System. “Studies have determined that patient care is safer and the outcomes are improved when nurses have the critical thinking skills gained from their continuing nursing education.’’
Proceeds from the annual Genesis Foundation Pro-Am Challenge as well as generous donations from employees, community members and local organizations help to fund these scholarships.
