Genesis Health System Among Top 20 Percent For Patient Outcomes And Patient Safety
Genesis Health System has been designated among the top 20 percent of health systems analyzed by Truven Health Analytics for quality of patient care, safety of patient care and patient outcomes.
Genesis Health System was the only Iowa health system to earn recognition in the 20 percent of 340 systems analyzed.
The Truven Health Analytics seventh annual study reviewed clinical outcomes of health systems across the country and picked the top 15 based on a composite score of nine measures, including mortality rates, complications, 30-day readmissions and lengths of stay. In addition to the top five nationally in large, medium and small health systems, Truven recognized the top quintile in each category.
Truven reports that this year's top systems had better survival rates; fewer patient complications; better long-term outcomes; better adherence to accepted care protocols and patient-safety standards; and, shorter hospital stays.
"The most important takeaway from this recognition is what it means to our patients and community,'' said Doug Cropper, President and CEO, Genesis Health System. "The independent evaluation is validation that Genesis delivers safe, high-quality patient care with outcomes better than the majority of our peers.''
Since 1993, the annual Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals program has used independent and objective data and research to identify the best hospitals in
the nation, and guide hospital and health system performance. Organizations do not apply for consideration, and winners do not pay to market their honor.
