Aledo Pharmacies Join Genesis Health System

ALEDO, Ill. – Genesis Medical Center, Aledo and the three independent local pharmacies will join together and consolidate into one downtown Genesis FirstMed Pharmacy.

Stuts Drug Store, owned by Dave Relander; Wagner Pharmacy, owned by Gary Wagner; and, McKnight Pharmacy, owned by Dave McKnight, will be consolidated into Genesis FirstMed Pharmacy in the present Stuts Drug Store location at 105 S. College Ave., Aledo All three pharmacists will continue to practice at the combined location.

Genesis will also open Genesis Home Medical Equipment, a durable medical equipment location, adjacent to the new pharmacy location.

“The increasing complexities of health care can make it difficult to be an independent provider,’’ according to pharmacist Gary Wagner. “By joining together the three pharmacists will be able to plan for their futures, will have the buying power of volume and will be able to react together to regulatory and reimbursement changes rather than independently.”

“All three pharmacists have served our community for many years. They have always worked closely together and now are collaborating to ensure that our patients will have a community-run pharmacy for many years to come,’’ explained Ted Rogalski, administrator of Genesis Medical Center, Aledo. “The customers of the pharmacies should be pleased that their pharmacists will continue to be involved in the Genesis FirstMed Pharmacy.’’

Rogalski said the three pharmacists will be able to benefit from the efficiencies in one location instead of having three independent and competing locations.

“A benefit to the community will be the convenience of being able to stop once for prescriptions and for home medical equipment. Both needs will be increasingly important as the population ages.’’

Rogalski said the pharmacy and home medical equipment store will enhance the coordination of care available to Genesis patients in Mercer County. Quality of care will also improve through enhanced medication reconciliation processes, as well as medication adherence. Earlier this year, Genesis Ambulance Service became the ambulance provider for four fire protection districts in Mercer County also resulting in greater care coordination.

The new Genesis FirstMed Pharmacy will open by September 1, with the consolidation of all pharmacies to take place during the month of September. The phone number of Genesis FirstMed Pharmacy in Aledo is (309) 582-5151.
