Genesis Senior Living Plans Memory Care Services

Genesis Senior Living, Aledo will expand memory care services in Mercer County and the Quad Cities with a new 16-bed unit opening in September.

Expanded memory care services at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo are a response to an increasing need for memory care not only in the region, but across the country. It is estimated that 3.4 million Americans have dementia. An additional 5.4 million people older than age 70 have some level of noticeable memory impairment.

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive and degenerative brain disorder that can cause changes in both mental and physical function and can trigger behavioral health issues. By contrast, dementia is a general, non-specific term for decline in cognitive function caused by a number of factors, including stroke and Parkinson’s disease.

The memory care unit at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo will provide a full program of care and activities designed to enhance social and motor skills for residents. A wide array of family support services will also be available.

All of the rooms will be private accommodations and are newly remodeled.

“Alzheimer’s, memory and dementia care services have a positive impact on the quality of life of residents. Our qualified staff, planned activities and an engaging environment will make our services specifically designed for the care of people with Alzheimer’s and related diseases,’’ explained Myron Higgins, administrator, Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. “Our staff will be trained in memory care to provide the highest level of care to our residents.’’

As the U.S. population ages, the need for specialized care for people with Alzhiemer’s disease and related disorders will continue to increase.

“Dementia and loss of memory can be progressive and debilitating conditions, but that does not mean those affected cannot have a meaningful quality of life,’’ Higgins said. “That is the way our memory care services will be planned and designed.

“We recognize the stress and challenges caregivers experience when providing for a family member with Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders. Genesis is pleased to add this high quality service in a convenient location in Mercer County and near the Quad Cities.’’

Genesis Senior Living, Aledo adjoins Genesis Medical Center, Aledo, giving memory care residents convenient access to hospital services, physician appointments and outpatient services when needed.

The memory care services at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo will begin accepting patients in September. For more information, contact Lindsay Schweninger, care transition coordinator at (309) 582-9405.
