Genesis to Offer Intensive Outpatient Behavioral Health
DAVENPORT, Iowa – Feb. 15, 2016 – An Intensive Outpatient Behavioral Health Program will be available from Genesis Behavioral Health beginning Wednesday, Feb. 17.
The Genesis Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is for adults, ages 18 and older, who are experiencing behavioral or emotional difficulties but do not require the more intensive care of an inpatient behavioral health unit.
These programs provide more intensive care than traditional outpatient treatment but the care is less restrictive than inpatient treatment.
“This program is the next major step in a plan developed in 2012 and updated in the years since to expand behavioral health services at Genesis,’’ said Jordan Voigt, President, Genesis Medical Center, Davenport. “Local services with local care providers are the best option to meet the growing need for expansion of behavioral health services.
“Genesis will continue to search for programming to meet the needs of this community.’’
Patients participate in IOP for four to six weeks, three or four days per week for three to four hours. Therapy is directed by a licensed independent social worker and a psychiatrist.
Areas of focus of Intensive Outpatient Programs include: coping skills training; identification of warning signs and actions likely to trigger core problems; communication and problem-solving skills; relaxation techniques; assertiveness training; and, addressing unresolved grief and trauma.
Genesis opened its new children and adolescent inpatient unit at Genesis Medical Center, West Central Park, on Dec. 1, 2015.
