Genesis Spiritual Care Hosts Open Arms Graveside Remembrance
Genesis Spiritual Care will host Open Arms, the seventh annual remembrance service for families who have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss. The graveside service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Oakdale Memorial Gardens, 2501 Eastern Avenue, Davenport, Iowa.
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month and Oct. 15 is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. It is a day to remember infants lost too soon.
"Many families have experienced the loss of a child because of miscarriage or stillbirth, or in early infancy," said Genesis Chaplain Carol Kelly. "Although the loss is far more common than people think, it's often not talked about and families are left to grieve in silence.
"We hope the Open Arms service will accomplish what its name intended … to surround these families with open arms of love and understanding and to give them the opportunity to remember and grieve for their loved one."
Bereavement Doula Jess Buntemeyer will one of the speakers at the event. A bereavement doula provides physical, emotional, and informational support to families experiencing pregnancy loss.
