Genesis Health System Among Top 20 Percent
Genesis Health System has been designated among the top 20 percent of health systems analyzed by IBM Watson Health for a number of quality measures.
Genesis Health System is recognized for the eighth time in the small health systems category. Genesis was the only Iowa health system earning recognition.
A total of 338 health systems and 2,422 health system member hospitals were considered in the annual study.
IBM Watson Health’s annual study reviewed clinical outcomes of health systems across the country and picked a top 15 based on a composite score of nine clinical and operational performance benchmarks. In addition to the top five nationally in large, medium and small health systems, IBM Watson Health recognized the top quintile in each category.
IBM Watson Health reports this year's top systems had better patient survival rates; fewer patient complications; better long-term outcomes; better adherence to accepted care protocols and patient-safety standards; and, shorter hospital stays.
"Independent evaluations tell the patients Genesis serves that we deliver safe, high-quality patient care with outcomes better than the majority of our peers,’’ said Doug Cropper, President and CEO, Genesis Health System.
Since 1993, the program has used independent and objective data and
research to identify the best hospitals and health systems in the nation, and guide hospital and health system performance. Organizations do not apply for consideration, and winners do not pay to market their honor.
