WellPower Fitness & Nutrition Challenges
The WellPower Fitness & Nutrition Programs are designed to move participants toward active behavior change to improve their lifestyles through better eating and increased physical activity. Participants are required to keep personal logs that track the amount of healthy food they eat and the minutes of physical activity they engage in every month.
The two programs are based upon national recommendations and nationally respected campaigns.
The Nutrition Challenge
This portion of the WellPower Program focuses on eating more fruits and vegetables each day. It is based upon the National 5-A-Day programs initiated by the American Cancer Society. This program promotes the consumption of a minimum of 5 fruits and vegetables each day. Research shows that eating more complex carbohydrates like fruits and vegetables can decrease the risk for certain types of cancer and improve the overall health of individuals.
To promote reasonable and practical change, the goals of this program are to eat a minimum of 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day for at least 15 days per month. WellPower Program instructors also provide education to show that portion sizes are smaller than we think and getting 5 servings is easier than we realize.

The Fitness Challenge
This portion of the WellPower Program focuses on getting regular physical activity at least 12 hours or 720 minutes per month. Research shows that accumulation of overall physical activity is what counts to improve lifestyles. Participants can achieve their goal by engaging in physical activity for 30 minutes six days each week, 60 minutes for three days per week or any other combination of minutes per session totaling the goal. This program supports recommendations of reputable national health agencies and officials such as the American Council on Exercise and the Surgeon General of the United States.
To promote reasonable and practical change, the participants are given examples of good physical activity. WellPower Instructors also educate individuals about their personal health limitations and appropriate exercises that can accomplish their goals.

Stress Management Challenge
This portion of the WellPower program focuses attention on managing stress using healthy coping techniques.
Most everyone has some type of stress in his or her life. Even welcomed changes in life can bring about stress. Every person handles stress differently. This challenge is designed to help raise awareness of stress sources, the severity and the effect it has as well as what type of coping method is used to respond. There are ways to manage stress that positively impact health and other ways that have a negative impact. Stress is a normal part of life so practicing healthy coping techniques is important in maintaining or achieving overall physical and mental health.
