Moon Walk 2007 is a project of the Wellness Champions of the Quad City Health Initiative (QCHI). Between March 30, 2007 and June 29, 2007, the Quad Cities will compete with Peoria to “walk” a community total of 954,800 miles, the equivalent of two round trips to the moon!
Why? Because the Wellness Champions are committed to helping Quad City residents make healthy choices regarding diet and exercise. The Moon Walk is a fun way to reinforce the importance of daily exercise in maintaining our health and preventing disease. Moreover, we were challenged! The Moon Walk started in Peoria in 2003. In 2004 and 2005, the communities of Rockford and Peoria raced to see which community could “walk” to the moon the fastest. In 2006, they invited the Quad Cities to join the race and we won in just five weeks! Overall, 6,341 Quad City Walkers accumulated 1,216,040 miles in 2006. This year it is double or nothing in a race with Peoria! The stakes are even higher to keep the Moon Walk Trophy in the Quad City area.
Registration for the Moon Walk is free and will be available in March 2007 through our Team Captains or at Moon Walk Satellite locations at Trinity Regional Health System, Genesis Health System and Community Health Care, Inc.. Once registered, Moon Walkers will keep daily logs of their mileage and report weekly tallies to their Team Captains. (If you’d prefer a different type of exercise, you can translate that activity into “miles” using our mileage conversion chart). Every week, we will total our community’s miles and check-in on the progress of our competitors. It’s that simple! Let's walk to the Moon!
