Genesis Smart Care: Trilogy Radiation Therapy
Genesis is one of very few hospitals nationwide and the first in Iowa to offer the Varian Trilogy system, a versatile, image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) system. Trilogy offers the highest dose rate in a shorter session, the ability to target small lesions, imaging to position patients quickly and accurately, and CT to fine-tune patient setups with ultra-precision. This combined technology means clinicians can see what they treat in real time.
Cancers Treated with Trilogy
Trilogy uses sophisticated technology to pinpoint the exact location of a tumor at the moment of treatment and deliver a highly focused and powerful beam of radiation. This technology can be used to treat a variety of cancers effectively and is particularly useful in treating small tumors close to critical structures or in areas that have already received treatment. The size and locations of lesions determine the treatment option that is best for individual patients.

The Next Generation of Technology at Genesis
Trilogy is the second of two new cancer technologies to come to Genesis in the past year. In the summer of 2008, the TomoTherapy High-Art system became the first milestone in an $11 million plan to transform cancer care at Genesis. This transformation includes the next generation of cancer-fighting technology, expanded and renovated facilities, and a new focus on services for cancer patients and their families.
The ability to offer our patients TomoTherapy and Trilogy is unique among cancer care programs and elevates Genesis to elite status among cancer care centers in the nation. The two technologies make Genesis comprehensive and are important advancements over what has been previously available in the region.
Benefits of Trilogy include shortened treatment times and enhanced patient comfort. Trilogy is one of the many Smart Care technologies offered by Genesis to enable patients to resume their daily activities as quickly as possible.
