Be a Survivor: An Overview of Breast Cancer Treatment, 1997, 20 minutes. This video is designed to give the newly diagnosed woman and her family an understanding of the treatments available and to encourage her to participate in the decision process. It covers everything from biopsy to nipple reconstruction.

Beating Breast Cancer, 1991, 60 minutes. This was a "48" Hours special with stories of women diagnosed with breast cancer. The surgery they went through and emotions expressed. It also discusses black women with breast cancer. 

Beyond Flowers:  What to Say and Do When Someone You Know has Breast Cancer, 2003, 38 minutes.  This video is divided into seven sections:  Acknowledging; relating; organizing; processing; healing; transitioning and receiving.  You will be filled with ideas and courage.  Affinityfilms, Inc.

Breast Cancer, 1994. #5 in Oncology Series. This program describes how breast cancer develops and how it can spread to other parts of the body. It explains the various types of surgery that be used in treatment.

Breast Cancer: A Common Risk, 1996. This video was produced by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Breast Cancer and the Family, 2000, 24 minutes.  In this program you will the story of Stefanie and Chris Spielman (Chris was a professional football player) and the experiences of other families facing breast cancer.  You will learn that breast cancer affects the entire family and the battle against it is one the whole family must fight together.

Breast Cancer--Facing the Challenge, 1992, 37 minutes. Four women tell their stories about their breast cancer experience.

Breast Cancer: Taking Charge of Your Treatment, 2000. This video is intended to assist you in understanding your adjuvant chemotherapy for early-stage breast cancer.

A Cancer Rainbow, 2005.  This DVD chronicles the filmmaker's breast cancer journey by profiling the people who inspired her along the way.  AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals.

A Celebration of Life:  Rising Above Breast Cancer, 58 minutes.  This video features the efforts of programs created to educate, facilitate health care and save lives from the inner cities to the rural south. 

Confie en el Manana: Guia para el tratamiento del cancer de seno, 1999, 40 minutes. This video is designed to meet the specific needs of Latina women and their families. It will give the newly diagnosed woman and her family an understanding of the treatments available and to encourage her to participate in the decision process. It covers everything from biopsy to nipple reconstruction.

Destined to Live, 1988, 47 minutes. This is a film which provides understanding and hope for women who face breast cancer hosted by Jill Eikenberry. ACS video.

A Devastating Disease: Health Perspectives on Breast Cancer, 1995, 2 hours. A recorded panel discussion that was "live" at the time of recording. All issues surrounding breast cancer were discussed. Viewers called in with questions for the panel which included physicians, nurses, technologists and survivors.

For Women's Lives, 1996, 60 minutes. Dialogues on breast cancer. Video that provides an extensive analysis of the disease through the eyes of patients, doctors and researchers.

Genetic Testing for Breast Cancer Risk: It's Your Choice, 1997. This video was developed to introduce this new technology for detecting cancer susceptibility to women with a history of breast cancer and ovarian cancer and to those diagnosed with breast cancer at an early age. Because this video conveys the complexity of the decision-making process in having a genetic test, viewing it is an important first step for all women who are considering genetic testing.

In My Mother's Footsteps, 7 minutes. Story of Betty Ford and her diagnosis of breast cancer. Susan Ford, her daughter, educates women about breast cancer.

In Touch for Life, A Wellness Program for Lumpectomy Patients, 1994, 30 minutes. Some important things you can do to get through and beyond your breast cancer experience. Breast self-exam (BSE) for lumpectomy patients is reviewed and demonstrated. A simple daily exercise routine is demonstrated.

A Life Saving Choice, 1992/93, 8 minutes. Targets African-American women. Reviews breast self-exam. Good mammogram education.

Living With It, Daughter to Mother, 13 minutes.  Teenage girls whose mothers are living with recurrent breast cancer share their experiences.

Mammotest Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, 1994, 20 minutes. Stereotactic breast biopsy utilizing Fisher equipment is reviewed.

My Mom Has Breast Cancer, A Guide for Families, 1996, 33 minutes. Moms and their children talk about the breast cancer experience and its effects on the kids. Good for families with children aged 8-13.

Moving Beyond Breast Cancer, 1999, 23 minutes.  This DVD was designed as a support tool to help women as they finish breast cancer treatment.  It features stories of breast cancer survivors in various stages of life who share their concerns and perspectives to help other women know what to expect.

New Hope, Overcoming Fears About Breast Cancer, 1993, 20 minutes. Videotape of conversations with women who have faced the disease and learned how to handle fear.

Nowhere to Hide, 1987, 10 minutes. Presents insight on the importance of breast health, promoting the three basic components: BSE, mammography and yearly examination by a physician. This program helps explain why BSE is important and how mammography can help. ACS video.

One Move at a Time--Exercise for Women Recovering From Breast Cancer, 1996, 23 minutes.  This video features Christine Clifford and contains simple, gentle exercises you can do no matter how fit you are.  The exercises will work to restore your range of motion and aid in the recovery of feeling in your arm.  The Cancer Club video.

On With Life: Practical Information on Living with Advanced Breast Cancer, 1999, 24 minutes. This video provides information about treating and managing advanced or metastatic breast cancer and suggests how to make informed treatment choices. They recommend each woman be an active partner in determining the course of her care.

Once a Year . . . For a Lifetime, 1990, 26 minutes. A video hosted by Jane Pauley and Phylicia Rashad that tells the story of five women whose lives are touched in different ways by breast cancer. It is intended to serve as an important tool in educating women on the need for regular health maintenance and appropriate medical testing in the detection of breast cancer.

Partners in Hope--A Man's Guide to Women's Breast Cancer, 2001, 40 minutes.  This informative and supportive video addresses the illness from a male point of view.  Topics include:  the initial impact of the diagnosis; how men and women face crises; feelings of anger and helplessness, using communication as a roadmap; sorting through medical information; surgery, treatments and reconstruction; intimacy; life beyond treatment.   A Bosom Buddies video.

A Significant Journey: Breast Cancer Survivors and the Men Who Love Them, 1995, 20 minutes. Interviews with couples undergoing the process of diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer. Reviews psychosocial and sexuality issues of the disease.

A Special Providence, 1992, 12 minutes. Tells the story of a young woman diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Examines personal relationships and professional relationships for the patient going through treatment.

A Special Touch, 1987, 10 minutes. Reviews vertical, wedge and circular techniques. ACS video.

Staying in Touch--How to do your monthly breast self-exam, 1996, 20 minutes. Very informative video about the importance of breast self-exam and how to do it.

Stories of My Sisters:  Interviews with Alaska Native Breast Cancer Survivors , 1996, 50 minutes.

Taking Charge of Your Treatment for Early Stage Breast Cancer, 2000.  This video is to assist patients in understanding adjuvant chemotherapy for early-stage breast cancer.  During the program you will meet a medical oncologist, an oncology nurse and four women who have received adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer.  Bristol-Myers Squibb Oncology video.

Un Togue Saludable: La Deteccion Temprana del Cancer de Seno, 1997, 12 minutes. This video in Spanish encourages Latina women to adopt a routine for early detection of breast cancer, including breast self-examination, mammography and clinical breast exam.

What I Wish I Knew, 1995, 23 minutes. Six breast cancer survivors tell what their chemotherapy was like. Hosted by Jill Eikenberry who is also a breast cancer survivor.

When Breast Cancer Comes Back: Skills for Living, 1999, 25 minutes. In this video, you will meet five women with breast breast cancer that has metastasized. They tell how they faced this with love, faith, humor and hope.

Will Mom Be OK?  Families Talk About Breast Cancer, 2003, 45 minutes.  In this video you will hear two child/family counseling experts discuss:  how to tell your child you have breast cancer; communicating effectively; managing the daily routine; recognizing a child's distress signals; and dealing with your own emotional highs and lows.  You will also meet four families who openly share their stories about breast cancer.  The Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation video.

Woman to Woman: Breast Cancer and Reconstruction Options, 1998, 41:30 minutes. In this video breast cancer survivors share memories of their journey from diagnosis to recovery. It covers specific information about choices for reconstruction after mastectomy and includes medical animation of breast conservation/lumpectomy, tissue expanders and both silicone and saline implants. In addition, two autogenous procedures are explained: latissimus dorsi flap and transverse rectus abdominus mycutaneous flap.

You Are Not Alone, 2003.  Young Survival Coalition.  Join six young women for an intimate and candid discussion of the issues unique to young women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Check It Out, 1986, 10 ½ minutes. An MTV-like video which focuses on the use and potential dangers of smokeless tobacco. Five young singers stress its health hazards. Produced by ACS in cooperation with the American Dental Association.

Dipping and Chewing, 1980, 8 ½ minutes. Describes the effects of smokeless tobacco on the mouth, teeth and gums and points out the effects nicotine has on a person's circulatory and nervous system. ACS video.

Don Ritchie, Smoking and Health, 1986, 35 minutes. A laryngectomy patient talks about the perils of smoking.

Oral Carcinoma, 1994, 42 minutes. Dr. Vezeau reviews oral carcinoma.

Speech After Laryngectomy, 1988, 20 minutes. In this video you will meet several people who have resumed normal active lives after a laryngectomy. Various alternatives chosen for speech will be reviewed and the methods for teaching these techniques.

What You Should Know About Oral Cancer, 1994, 8½ minutes. Detection, prevention and treatment of oral cancer.

Leukemia

Acute Leukemia, 1994, 10 minutes. #8 in Oncology Series. This program describes how leukemia develops and its effect on the functioning of the blood. It also discusses diagnostic tests and procedures. It explains treatment and follow-up and the effectiveness and clinical criteria of bone marrow transplantation.

Why, Charlie Brown, Why?, 1990, 30 minutes. This video portrays in a realistic and understandable manner the problems faced by patients with childhood leukemia. The mood is optimistic and the message is clear-childhood leukemia can be cured with early and proper treatment. The video features Charlie Brown, Linus and Janice from the Peanuts comic strip and is geared to 5th -7th graders.

Lung / Tobacco

Blown Away, 2000, 19 minutes. Produced in conjunction with Outreach Plays, Inc. this video is intended for use with children in elementary grades 4 and 5 and middle school. The video tells one adolescent's journey with the death of her father from tobacco use and how it influences her own decision to quit smoking.

Huffless, Puffless Dragon, 1964, 8 minutes. Animated cartoon aimed at preschoolers-3rd graders. Uses humor and satire to emphasize health hazards of cigarette smoking. Serves as door opener for more detailed discussion of smoking and health. ACS video.

Lung Cancer, 1994, 10 minutes. #4 in Oncology Series. This program describes the two common forms of lung cancer and their causes and symptoms. It explains the tests and procedures doctors may use to diagnose and isolate a tumor of the lung. It describes different treatments such as surgery.

Nonsmall Cell Lung Cancer: Understanding the Issues, 1994, 40 minutes. This video tells the story of a person who is overwhelmed by his diagnosis and all of the information being presented to him. He visits two other people with lung cancer and, with their help and encouragement, is able to express some of his feelings and understand better the concerns facing him. This video is designed to encourage communication between patients and families and their health-care team.

Poisoning Your Children:  The Perils of Secondhand Smoke, 1993, 12 minutes.  This video shows the importance of not smoking around children.  Animated graphics show how smoke harms the body. 

SLAM!, 15 minutes.  This video tells the true story of a singer/songwriter who turns down a lucrative recording opportunity because she does not want her music associated with a cigarette marketing campaign targeted toward young people.  She then founded SLAM! which has reached thousands of young people with information to resist the influence of the tobacco industry.  A DHHS video.

Smart Move, 1988, 18 minutes. Single session stop smoking presentation. ACS video.

Smokeless Tobacco:  Chewing and Dipping; Smokeless Tobacco--Is It Really Safe: Trouble in a Pinch.  Three ACS videos in one.

Take Time to Help--How Nurses Can Help Their Patients Stop Smoking, 1993, 29 minutes.  This video emphasizes the importance of delivering a clear message to stop smoking to patients followed by a caring and supportive approach to helping them stop.

Why Quit Quiz, 15 minutes.  A quiz format to present questions which dramatize the positive health benefits of quitting smoking.  ACS video.

Hodgkin's Disease, 1994, 10 minutes. #7 in Oncology Series. This program describes how Hodgkin's Disease develops and how it can spread to other parts of the body through the lymph system. It explains how the disease is diagnosed and how the extent of spread is determined. The role of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy is discussed.

Ovarian Cancer, 1994, 10 minutes. #9 in Oncology Series. This program explains how ovarian cancer develops and spreads and the measures taken when it is diagnosed. It also discusses the surgical treatments and possible follow-up with radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

Cancer Facts for Men and the Women Who Love Them-A Testicular/Prostate Cancer Program, 1991, 9 minutes. The purpose of this program is to inform men of the facts about testicular and/or prostate cancer. Testicular self-exam is discussed as well as the risk factors, warning signs and the tests available for testicular and prostate cancer.

A Funny Thing Happened One Day at the Mall , 1992, 20 minutes. A video presentation by the patient himself. It follows the patient through his initial diagnosis of prostate cancer and through surgery. A Schering presentation.

Into the Light, 1993. This is an educational documentary about prostate cancer. The program deals sensitively and discreetly with such difficult issues such as impotence, incontinence and fear of dying. The video profiles prostate cancer patients, their families and health care professionals.

Keeping Healthy, 1993, 17 minutes. This video provides prostate cancer patients and their families with an overview of the disease, the treatment options available and the valuable role of support groups. Surgeons, social workers and patients present basic information that is vital for prostate cancer patients and their families to know so that appropriate treatment choices can be made. This video also emphasizes a team approach by the patient, family members and physician to assure successful treatment.

LifeLines: A Guide to Life with Prostate Cancer, 1995. This video includes a discussion of the stages of cancer, diagnosis and treatment and strategies for coping. It also includes questions to ask your doctor, counseling and support resources and phone numbers for more free information.

Prostate Cancer, 1994, 10 minutes. This program describes the development of prostate cancer and the tests and procedures doctors use to diagnose the disease. It explains the various forms of treatment such as surgery or hormonal therapy.

Prostate Cancer '92--Some Good News Men Can Live With, 1992, 10 minutes. This video discusses the exams and tests for the detection and treatment of prostate cancer. (Continuous viewing; could be used for prostate screening.) Produced by the Prostate Cancer Education Council with Schering Corporation.

Prostate Cancer Treatment: Understanding Your Options, 1994, 24:45 minutes. This video is designed to help patients and their loved ones understand the many surgical and non-surgical options currently being used to successfully treat prostate cancer. It explains how each treatment fights cancer.

Prostate Cancer--What Everyone Should Know, 1990, 30 minutes. Hosted by Mason Adams. Stories about men living with prostate cancer with a message about the disease. Reviews the anatomy and physiology of the prostate gland, early warning symptoms of the disease, what exams are done to detect prostate cancer and the treatment of the disease.

Sexuality and the Prostate Patient, 1996, 20 minutes. Many times impotence and a reduction in sexual activity are the side effects of prostate cancer treatment. These side effects can be as devastating to a man as the disease itself. This program provides a detailed explanation of impotence and how it can be treated. In addition, couples who have survived prostate cancer describe how they overcame their struggles with impotence and how it changed and strengthened the intimacy they share.

Words to Live By: Living with Advanced Prostate Cancer, 1997, 25 minutes. This video is produced by Immunex.

When Someone You Love Has Prostate Cancer, 1995, 33 minutes. This program provides a personal understanding of the disease and its effect on both the patient and his wife or partner. Six couples speak candidly about their experiences with prostate cancer.

You Can Beat Prostate Cancer: A Patient's Guide to Treatment Options, 15 minutes. Produced by the American College of Radiology.

Detecting Early Melanoma, 1990, 13 minutes. Shows how to examine your skin for melanoma. Early signs and risk factors are discussed. ACS video.

A Report on Skin Cancer, 1985, 12 ½ minutes. Reviews basal cell, squamous cell and melanoma skin cancer. Discusses risk factors and how to examine your skin.

Skin Cancer, 1994, 10 minutes. #3 in Oncology Series. This program describes the normal process of skin renewal and the changes that take place to produce basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma of the skin. It describes various types of treatment such as cryotherapy and radiation therapy. It does not deal with melanoma.

Cancer Facts for Men and the Women Who Love Them--A Testicular/Prostate Cancer Program, 1991, 9 ½ minutes. Testicular Cancer, 1994, 10 minutes. #10 in Oncology Series. This program describes the development and the rate and pattern of spread of testicular cancer. It explains the tests and procedures used to diagnose it and the treatments such as surgery and chemotherapy.

Testicular Self-Examination, 1995, 5 minutes. The purpose of this film is to encourage male audiences to become aware of the facts about testicular cancer and to practice self-examination of the testes. The process of TSE is demonstrated using a live model. Would recommend showing to male only or female only audiences when presenting to high schoolers. ACS video.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy, 1994, 10 minutes. #1 in Oncology Series. This program describes how chemotherapy works and the various means of administering the drugs. It outlines tests that may be used to monitor the effects of therapy. It also discusses causes and management of side effects that result from the drugs' effects on health cells.

Chemotherapy: An Introduction to Treatment, 1995, 10 minutes. Overview of chemotherapy as a treatment modality for cancer.

Partnership for Recovery, 1992, 16 minutes. Managing the side effects of chemotherapy. Side effects include nausea/vomiting, infection, mouth soreness and feeling tired. Also coping strategies for stress and anxieties are discussed including relaxation techniques and resources. Produced by Glaxo.

Assessing Your Risk for Breast Cancer-There is something you can do, 1999. This video will give women a greater understanding of breast cancer and there new option, Nolvadex (tamoxifen). It will provide you with background so you can discuss breast cancer with your health care professional.

The Cancer Experience: Living With Treatment, 1992, 37 minutes. This video shows cancer patients and health care professionals sharing their experiences and thoughts about cancer treatment. Climb Against the Odds: A documentary film of courage and survival, 1999, 86 minutes. This video tells the story of 12 women attempting to reach the summit of Mt.
