Look Good Feel Better

Offered free of charge - Pre register 563-421-1907. Program helps cancer patients improve their appearance and self-image by teaching hands-on techniques to overcome the appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.  Women also learn ways to disguise hair loss with wigs, scarves and other accessories.  For more information about the Look Good, Feel Better program, visit their Web site or contact your American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345.

Meditation

Meditation is an ancient practice that brings inner peace. It quiets the mind by using the breath and directing our awareness inside. It is highly effective in reducing stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia that often appear in cancer, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, substance abuse and more. Meditation is considered by the Mayo Clinic to be among the top ten best complementary alternative therapies.

T'ai Chi

$10 for 1 class or $50 pass for 6 classes - Pre-register at 309-793-7881 Satva CenterT'ai Chi Chuan is a Chinese ancient system of rounded, fluid movements that enhance joint mobility, body flexibility, balance and circulation. It also strengthens the body and centers the mind as a meditation in motion. T'ai Chi is considered by the Mayo Clinic to be among the top ten best complementary alternative therapies.

Gentle Yoga

$10 for 1 class or $50 pass for 6 classes - Pre-register at 309-793-7881 Satva Center  A softer version than the popular Hatha Yoga it is a series of body postures held in silence combined with breathing techniques that relax, stretch and add strength and flexibility to the body while calming the mind. It is very effective for depression, anxiety and more.

Nutrition and You

Offered free of charge - No pre-registration - Radiation Oncology Conference RoomCancer Care Institute Dietitian, Amanda Wilson, will teach on the importance of good nutrition while undergoing treatment for cancer. Amanda will provide nutrition tips and recipes.
