Genesis Heart Surgery Ranks Among Nation's Top 15%
The heart surgery program at Genesis has received the highest composite rating available – three stars – from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
The three-star rating was earned by approximately 15 percent of the 756 hospitals supplying data for calendar year 2006 to The Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
The composite rating – one, two or three stars – is a new measurement in the assessment of the clinical performance of hospitals supplying data to The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. The composite rating encompasses not only outcome measures, but also process measures and adherence to evidence-based care throughout the patient’s admission. Genesis also received three-star ratings in two of four quality measurement bundles.
“Achieving the highest rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons is a reflection of the high quality of heart care available consistently from Genesis,’’ said Genesis heart surgeon Nicholas Augelli, M.D. “The message to the communities we serve is that a high quality of care is available on a daily basis from surgeons who live and practice in the Quad Cities.’’
The open-heart surgery program is part of a comprehensive program of cardiovascular care available at Genesis.
