Procedure

You will be asked to prepare for bed. The technologist will ask you to fill out a questionnaire concerning your days activities. The technician will then apply several small discs to your scalp and face that monitor your brain waves, eye movements and muscle activities. A clip will be placed on your finger to measure the amount of oxygen in your blood. Elastic bands will be placed around your chest and abdomen to measure your breathing movements as well as a monitor on your face to measure airflow. Two small discs will be placed on each leg to record any leg jerks during sleep. Despite the monitoring devices, most patients find it easy to fall asleep.

If your tests are complete, you are free to go home or to work, There are no side effects from this test.
