Recovering from StrokeGenesis Medical Center

Genesis Medical Center, Davenport has implemented a Stroke Alert protocol on its East Rusholme Street and West Central Park campuses.  Since August 2001, a protocol for administering TPA, or Tissue Plasminogen Activase, has brought more urgency to this time-sensitive care issue. By activating a stroke team including emergency services, nursing, lab, neurology, radiology, pharmacy and spiritual care, patients will receive a well-planned system of care. All evaluations and tests are to be completed within one hour of the time the patient arrives at the hospital.

In-hospital Care

With a dedicated Neuroscience Unit, Genesis can offer complete care for neurological and neurosurgical patients, such as those with the diagnoses of stroke. Nursing staff includes a masters-prepared neuroscience clinical nurse - specialist. A multidisciplinary team approach provides comprehensive, patient-focused care. Efforts are underway to develop a specialized Acute Stroke Unit dedicated to the care of persons who have experienced a stroke.

Rehabilitation

The 42-bed comprehensive inpatient program is accredited by CARF, The Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission, as a Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Program - Hospital.
