Therapeutic Recreation - Internship Opportunity

The Genesis Therapeutic Recreation Program requires a 15-week internship in the areas of (Rehabilitation, Bariatrics, Pulmonary, Mental Health, and Outpatient Services). The 15-week internship is divided into 5-week rotations per unit. As an intern, he/she will be working with all of our 9 certified recreational therapists (CTRS's). Below is basic information regarding each unit.

The Therapeutic Recreation Department offers services 6 days a week between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:30 pm.

Role of Therapeutic Recreation:

Every Recreational Therapist is responsible for assessing all new patients receiving a therapeutic recreation order, developing an individualized treatment plan, completing daily documentation, performing discharge planning, assisting with evening activities when scheduled, organizing community re-entry opportunities, and attending care conferences/discharge planning/meeting.

Role of Therapeutic Recreation Intern:

The intern will be responsible for assisting and carrying out all patient care related responsibilities under the supervision of a CTRS. As an intern, the student has an opportunity to experience a variety of areas in the therapeutic recreation field. Upon completion of the internship, the student will be able to independently: assess new patients, develop individual goals and objectives for each patient, plan and implement appropriate and functional activities, lead group activities, complete all daily documentation, perform discharge planning with each patient prior to his/her discharge date, attend weekly and/or daily department/team meetings, assist with evening activities, and plan weekly community re-entry outings.

Morning Star Housing opportunity:

Morning Star is a 15 bed brain injury housing facility that interns can apply to live at in exchange for providing weekly activities.
