We are staffed by a specially trained team of doctors, nurses and other health care workers dedicated to the multidisciplinary treatment of wound healing problems. Our clinicians can improve the outcome of healing by applying research-based care.

The Institute is a collaboration of Genesis and Wound Management Consultants, led by Brad DeWall, M.D. The longtime surgeon and wound care specialist serves as Medical Director.

Who Can Be Helped?

The Genesis Wound and Hyperbaric Institute provides assistance for patients experiencing difficulties with the following:

  • Wounds such as:
         - Diabetic ulcers
         - Venous insufficiency ulcers
         - Arterial ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers (bedsores)
  • Non-healing surgical wounds (more than 3-4 weeks)
  • Non-healing traumatic wounds (more than 3-4 weeks)
  • Outpatient burn care
  • If wound returns
  • Radiation injuries

Our certified wound/ostomy nurses are available to provide care for patients who have undergone or are scheduled to have bowel or urinary diversional surgeries including:

  • Urostomy
  • Colostomy
  • Ileostomy
  • Continent diversion surgery

Plan of Care

Upon initial evaluation, a plan of care is developed with the patient. Consultation with other services or healthcare professionals is readily available for special needs and/or counseling. Treatment plans may include one or more of the following:

  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
  • Endocrinology
  • Infectious disease
  • Diabetes educator
  • Home care nursing
  • Social services
  • Orthotic/prosthetic services
  • Surgical
  • Occupational or physical therapy


Genesis Wound and Hyperbaric Institute is open to self-referrals or referral by the physician or other health care providers. In order to ensure the patient is covered for these services, the patient should verify with their insurance company whether referral is required. Physicians referring to the Wound and Hyperbaric Institute may select to have wound care managed by a specific clinic physician or request for the certified wound/ostomy nurse to provide care under the primary physician's direction.


Genesis Medical Center will bill Medicare and/or other insurance companies for services provided at the Wound and Hyperbaric Institute in Davenport or Moline. A separate physician bill will be submitted when the patient is seen by a clinic physician.
