Endovenous Laser Therapy

A comprehensive treatment of abnormal veins in the legs and other parts of the body
About half of adults over the age of 50 suffer from varicose veins. Unlike spider veins, the culprits are actually bulging cords visible under the skin that are unsightly and create multiple medical problems.
Symptoms associated with varicose veins include:
- Pain
- Swelling
- Tired legs
- Cramps
- Itchiness
- Skin discoloration and
- Ulceration and bleeding
Varicose veins typically occur in the legs, but can develop in other areas of the body.
The solution: Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT)
Varicose veins before and then four weeks after EVLT
Varicose veins are typically removed through a vein stripping procedure, a surgery that often requires admission to the hospital.
EVLT is different, a minimally-invasive procedure that still eliminates varicose veins but on an outpatient basis. Patients are usually given local anesthesia intravenously and finish in about an hour.
EVLT is commonly supplemented with additional procedures such as ambulatory phlebectomy and sclerotherapy, either at the same time or at a later visit. Specialized graduated compression stockings are also used to facilitate resolution of the abnormal veins.
