BIG and LOUD: early intervention program for Parkinson Disease - Genesis Health System

Big & Loud: Parkinson Intervention Program

Genesis Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has become the second therapy program in Iowa to provide the LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD treatments for early intervention of conditions related to Parkinson Disease and other neurological conditions.

What do LSVT LOUD patients learn?

Patients learn to speak at an improved level of loudness through daily exercises and activities in order to be better understood in conversation. Patients report increased confidence as speech improves.

What do LSVT BIG patients learn?

Patients learn to move with bigger movements through daily exercises and activities in order to perform daily tasks more safely and efficiently. Patients report increased confidence as mobility improves.

Do I need a referral?

Referral from an MD is needed for both programs. Furthermore, prior to participating in the LSVT LOUD program, patients need to be examined by an ENT physician to determine if participation in the program is appropriate.
