Since arriving in the Quad-Cities in 1991, Dr. Lohmuller has worked extensively to improve the medical care to the community, the State of Iowa, and to developing parts of the world. Along with practicing in General Surgery at Davenport Surgical Group, PC with special interests in GI surgery, endocrine surgery, breast surgery, and trauma surgery, Dr. Lohmuller has served in numerous leadership roles.
Dr. Lohmuller served as the first Chief Medical Officer for Genesis Health System before returning to his full time surgical practice in 2014. He has also been the Vice-President for Medical Affairs at GMC-Davenport, the President of the Medical Staff at GMC-Davenport, and the Trauma Program Medical Director for 17 years at GMC-Davenport.
Dr. Lohmuller has been elected as the President of the Mayo Surgical Alumni Association and the Iowa Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. He has worked extensively in Peru and Ecuador with medical mission teams. He was asked to be the Medical Director for the missionary team in Peru and has traveled annually to Arequipa, Peru from 2002-2014 to serve the poor there.
In medical school, Dr. Lohmuller planned to become an internist, like his father, until undergoing a two month surgery rotation. "I realized that surgery had the potential, in a single step, to fix a patient's problem for a lifetime," he concludes. "I found that immediate effects of surgery very appealing."
When not working, Dr. Lohmuller can be found bicycling about the Quad-City area or piloting his boat on the Mississippi River. He and his wife, Ann, also spend time traveling to see their three children who live at the corners of the continental United States.
