Renovation Project Updates
A $12 million dollar renovation of Genesis Medical Center, Aledo has recently been completed. Elements of the renovation included upgrading the infrastructure, enhancing medical technology and expanding outpatient services to meet required safety standards and patient expectations. Most importantly, these improvements will ensure the hospital will continue to serve the long-term health and wellness needs of our community.
The project, which was done in three phases, and spanned a time frame of just under two years, included establishing a new entrance and centralized patient registration area located at the front of the hospital. A new docking station for the MRI/PET services was created at the front of the hospital so that patients will no longer have to go outside to enter the mobile units. All services continued to operate during the renovation.
Radiology, Physical Therapy and Surgery were renovated to accommodate growth and advancement in medical technology. The existing operating room was remodeled and includes a new surgical suite, recovery room, sterile storage area and scrub room. The Physical Therapy department was greatly expanded and recently began offering Phase 2 Cardiac Rehabilitation, saving patients in the area from driving to the Quad Cities three times a week for their therapy.
A significant component of the construction was to replace the HVAC system throughout the entire building. All patient rooms were also updated and all hallways carpeted to provide a more quiet atmosphere for our patients..
The Emergency Room, Laboratory and hospital cafeteria were all expanded and totally renovated. The hospital kitchen was closed and in an effort to avoid duplication of services, a new kitchen was established at the senior living which will serve both the hospital and the senior living facility.
