Everyday I get to wake up and help change a life. People look to physicians for not only physical ailments. We often become people's teachers, mentors, counselors, therapists, clergy, etc. This only signifies our roles for people in the community. There are not many professions that can impact somebody's life in such a profound way.
As a physician, patients turn to you for all kinds of problems and it is our duty to be there in those times. Although medicine takes skill and academics, the majority of our job is the art of people, which is what ultimately led me to medicine. It is both a skill and art. I am always learning and expanding my medical armamentarium, but also using my emotional side to comfort people in crisis.
