Genesis Nursing Scholarships Awarded

Seven college students enrolled in BSN nursing program are the newest recipients of $10,000 scholarships from the Genesis Health Services Foundation.

The students received their awards at the annual Genesis Distinguished Nurse Lecture to recognize National Nurses Week.

The recipients of the $10,000 awards are Elizabeth Cavazos, Rock Island, IL., St. Ambrose University; Jessica Chostner, LeClaire, IA., St. Ambrose University; Jessie Curry, Muscatine, IA., Mount Mercy University, Cedar Rapids, IA.; Audrey Holland, Davenport, IA., Allen College of Nursing, Waterloo, IA.; Mary Ludin, Rock Island, IL., Northern Illinois University, DeKalb; Bridget McGing, Elgin, IL., University of Iowa; and, Samantha Townsend, Davenport, IA., St. Ambrose University.

Upon graduation, the scholarship recipients will begin their professional nursing careers within Genesis Health System.

"I want to be that nurse who looks her patients in the eye when they talk, listens to what they are saying, so I fully understand their situation, and, help develop and implement the best care plan for them,'' said Holland in her scholarship application.

Nursing scholarships help Genesis build long-term relationships with highly trained and skilled health professionals who provide quality care to patients. Scholarship funding is raised from the annual Genesis Pro-Am Challenge golf event and other special events and gifts.

"By establishing strong relationships with nursing students and assisting Genesis nurses as they advance their educations, Genesis is planning for our future needs to provide the best care possible for patients,'' said Judy Pranger, chief nurse executive and vice president, Genesis Health System.  "We are always reaching out to students in health careers with the hope that they will become valued Genesis employees in the future.''

Genesis also awards degree completion scholarships to Genesis Health System nurses who are advancing their nursing educations. More than $150,000 in nursing scholarships were awarded this year by the Genesis Health Services Foundation.

This year's Pro-Am Challenge to raise funds for the nursing scholarship program will be held Aug. 20. Lujack Lexus of Quad Cities and Quad City Bank & Trust are tournament sponsors. For information or reservations to play in the Pro-Am Challenge, call (563) 421-6861 or go to
