Genesis Expands “Fill The Truck’’ Effort To DeWitt

The annual Genesis “Fill The Truck’’ event to support social service centers will be expanding this year.

In addition to the annual event organized by the ambulance service at Genesis Medical Center, Silvis, a second event will be organized by the ambulance service at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt.

Both events will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.

The “Fill The Truck’’ event collects non-perishable food items, paper products, personal hygiene produces and cash donations.  The items are collected at the WalMart in Silvis and are donated to Winnie’s Place, a domestic violence shelter for women and children. This will be the eighth year for the Silvis event.

New this year will be a “Fill The Truck’’ event in DeWitt.  Food, clothes, shoes, toys, books and a variety of household items will be collected for the DeWitt Referral Center, which serves individuals and families with assistance for paying rent, utilities or prescription medications.  The center also operates a food pantry and store.

Barnes Foodland will be the collection site in DeWitt.
