Genesis Medical Center, Aledo and Genesis Senior Living, Aledo Collect Over 900 Pounds of Food for Food Pantry

Demand at the Churches of Mercer County Food Pantry has rarely been higher due to a challenging economy.  The pantry serves residents throughout the area, with over 200 families utilizing the pantry each month.  Each family can receive emergency food for 5 days or 15 meals, proportioned according to family size.

"It has been a challenge to keep enough food on the shelves this year with such a high demand. We are thankful to local organizations and citizens who are generously donating to the food pantry," said Sharon Lingafelter, Food Pantry Coordinator.

Genesis Medical Center, Aledo and Genesis Senior Living, Aledo are committed to serving the community and want to give back in a variety of ways.  With the upcoming holidays, all of the employees felt that the Food Pantry would be an excellent cause and they held a contest to help fill the shelves at the food pantry.  Every department in the hospital and nursing home participated in the food drive and the response from the employees was amazing, with over 900 pounds of food and paper items donated.  Employees also donated over two hundred dollars to purchase vouchers for perishable items such as eggs, milk, and butter.

"Our employees are very supportive of the food drive and wanted to help the food pantry respond to the high demand. It is our mission and commitment that we help our family, friends, and neighbors in our community," commented Myron Higgins, administrator, Genesis Senior Living, Aledo.
