Mercer Foundation for Health donated $2,000 to the Mercer County Health Department to assist in the purchase of an Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) system required for the Helping Hands Home Services program.

The EVV monitors hours visited for each client, which aids in billing for services and has the capacity to monitor care delivery requirements. Every Home Service Agency in the state of Illinois that participates in the Community Care Program is required to purchase the $4,000 system.

“Our mission is to support health care in the local community.  We are supportive and grateful for all of the programs offered through the Mercer County Health Department. We are happy to help them with the purchase of the Electronic Visit Verification system so they can continue to serve the wellness needs of Mercer County,” said Vicki Palmer, President, Mercer Foundation for Health.

Helping Hands Home Services offered by Mercer County Health Department provides non-medical, in-home care to residents of Mercer County. Home service workers provide many care services which include: housekeeping, meal prep, bathing, grooming, laundry, transportation, supervision, medication reminders, ambulation assistance, companionship, errands and appointments. Currently, the program serves 35 clients, employs seven part-time employees and one full-time program manager.
“One of the beautiful aspects of Helping Hands Home Services is that we are locally ‘owned and operated’.  We simply want to offer a needed service to our community. While we are not- for-profit, we do want to be good stewards of our funding and the cost of the EVV was a true hardship for our small program. Thanks to the generous spirit of the Mercer Foundation for Health, we are able to continue to serve the Mercer County Community through our Home Services program,” commented Carla Ewing, Administrator, Mercer County Health Department.
