Genesis Hospitals Receive Top Grades For Patient Safety - Genesis Health System

Genesis Hospitals Awarded Highest Grades In Quad-Cities For Patient Safety By Hospital Safety Score

Genesis Medical Center, Davenport and Genesis Medical Center, Silvis have each been awarded “A” grades, the top safety grades in the Quad Cities, from Hospital Safety Score.
The Hospital Safety Score is calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel using publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections. U.S. hospitals were assigned an A, B, C, D, or F for their safety.

Hospital Safety Score rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.

"On a daily basis Genesis employees work hard together to provide the safest care possible for patients,'' said Doug Cropper, President and CEO, Genesis Health System.  "We have made patient safety a system-wide priority and involved every employee in our safety goals.’’

“Patient safety needs to be a 24-7 priority for hospitals, as errors and infections are all too common and often deadly,’’ said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leaprfrog Group. “We commend the ‘A’ hospitals, including the Genesis Health System hospitals, for helping us to raise the standards of health care nationwide, and demonstrating that they’ve made the well-being of patients a top priority.

“We congratulate Genesis Medical Centers for their safety excellence and hope the Genesis hospitals will continue to strive for an ever-increasing level of excellence in patient safety.”

Genesis Medical Centers in Davenport and Silvis have received higher  letter grades from  Hospital Safety Score than the grades received by all other hospitals in the Quad-Cities.

Hospital Safety Score uses measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm.  More than 2,500 general U.S. hospitals were assigned scores this fall.  A full analysis of the data and methodology used is available at
