Genesis Spiritual Care To Host Open Arms Graveside Remembrance

Genesis Spiritual Care will host Open Arms, the sixth annual remembrance service for families who have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss. The graveside service will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, 2501 Eastern Avenue, Davenport, Iowa.

Oct. 15 is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. It is a day to remember infants lost too soon and a day to encourage parents around the world to light a candle in remembrance of their child. The candles, to be lit at 7 p.m., are a part of a worldwide effort in all time zones to provide a continuous wave of light in memory of these children.

"Many families have experienced the loss of a child because of miscarriage or stillbirth, or in early infancy," said Genesis Chaplain Carol Kelly. "Although the loss is far more common than people think, it's often not talked about and families are left to grieve in silence.

"We hope the 'Open Arms' service will accomplish what its name intended … to surround these families with open arms of love and understanding and to give them the opportunity to remember and grieve for their loved one."
