Registration Extended for Metabolic Syndrome Initiative
Genesis Philanthropy has extended the application period for a free program with proven health results and possible weight loss.
Genesis Philanthropy will continue to take applications through Wednesday, Jan. 17. To register, go to www.genesisphilanthropy.org.
The program is free to individuals who want to reduce their risk for chronic disease. If clinically qualified, individuals will be able to participate in a 10-week program to reduce the risk factors of Metabolic Syndrome.
Genesis Philanthropy and its affiliates, Genesis Foundation; the DeWitt Community Hospital Foundation; and, Mercer Foundation for Health are providing support to expand access to the Metabolic Syndrome Initiative.
Metabolic Syndrome is a potentially dangerous cluster of five risk factors. When three or more of the five factors are present, the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease all increase.
The Metabolic Syndrome Initiative was first introduced to the region by Genesis in 2014. Since then, participants who had elevated Metabolic Syndrome risk before the program have experienced a 36 percent reduction in their risk factors after the 10-week intervention. Participants in all the groups have lost an average of 13.9 pounds per person.
