Genesis Hosts Trauma Conference
Genesis Health System will host a Trauma Conference on Friday, Nov. 1 to educate emergency medical service professionals on the essential components involved in a variety of emergent scenarios.
The conference will be held at the Waterfront Convention Center, 2021 State Street in Bettendorf. The conference starts at 7:30 a.m. and will end at 3:00 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception. Cost is $45 per person, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch, breaks, and CME/CE credits. Cost is $35 for students and residents.
This event is intended for medical service professionals who treat trauma patients, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, and social workers. Continuing education credits will be available.
“This will be an informative continuing education opportunity for anyone who potentially touches the lives of trauma patients and provides care for them,’’ said Jody Johnston-Mohr, continuing medical education coordinator for Genesis Health System. “There will be something for every interest.’’
Keynote speaker at 8 a.m. will be Corporal Omar Delgado, who served as a first responder on June 12, 2016, at the Pulse Night Club, Orlando, Fla. The Pulse Nightclub was the site of one of the worst mass casualty attacks in United States history.
Corporal Delgado is a former police officer and is founder of the National Victim Support Network. He was one of the heroes of the Pulse Night Club attack but has suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) since the event. He lost his job with the Eatonville Police Department when he was no longer able to work on the street, according to media reports.
The conference will feature six speakers from organizations involved in trauma response. Topics of presentations will include pediatric trauma care, blunt and penetrating trauma cases and aeromedical transportation.
The conference is sponsored by Genesis Medical Center, Davenport and Silvis, SENB Bank and Portola Pharmaceuticals.
