Genesis Signs With Iowa Total Care Medicaid

DAVENPORT, Iowa – June 17, 2019 -- Genesis Health System has signed a contract with Iowa Total Care as an Iowa Medicaid provider, effective July 1.

This agreement comes as good news for Genesis patients who use Iowa Medicaid and fulfills an important need in the state and Quad Cities community with the planned June 30 exit of UnitedHealthcare from the privatized Iowa Medicaid management market. Iowa privatized Medicaid in 2016.

For Iowa Medicaid patients, the transition to another Medicaid provider should be seamless. Those Iowa Medicaid patients who currently have UnitedHealthcare will be covered until midnight June 30. Patients will be covered by Total Care or Amerigroup, the state’s other private managed care organization, beginning July 1.

“This is an important development needed for Genesis to deliver its mission of compassionate, quality health services to all those in need, particularly the underserved in our community,” said Doug Cropper, President & CEO. “Our hope is that the entry of Iowa Total Care into the market will be smooth and cause little disruption in benefits to our Genesis patients on Iowa Medicaid.”

UnitedHealthcare is the second managed care organization (MCO) to leave the Iowa Medicaid market. AmeriHealth Caritas left Iowa Medicaid in 2017.
