Class of 2023

 

Kyle Carver, MD is a 2020 grad from Southern Illinois University. He is from Champaign originally and lived there from kindergarten through his attaining a Bachelor's degree in molecular biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He decided to go into Family Medicine because he enjoys getting to know his patients and building long-lasting relationships with them. He has a passion for fitness and nutrition and enjoys working out, hiking, trying new recipes, baking, anything Disney/Pixar, and is a die-hard Chicago Bears fan.

 

Mary DeFrance, MD, is a 2020 grad from University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, IL. She is an officer in the Illinois Air National Guard and received her undergrad from the University of Illinois College of ACES in Urbana-Champaign, IL. She enjoys jogging, mountain biking, fishing, and painting.

Emily Gudenkauf, DO, grew up in Dubuque, Iowa. She graduated from Loras College in Dubuque with a major in biochemistry. She then went on to receive her medical degree from AT Still University- Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. In her free time she enjoys hiking with her dogs, Beau and Bella, playing guitar and singing, baking, and spending time with her friends and family.

Kubat Rahatbeck, MD, is a 2020 grad from the University of Iowa. He also received his undergrad degree from the University of Iowa. He enjoys playing the tenor saxophone, jazz flute, traveling, practicing martial arts, swimming, and spending time with his family.
Jenna Sarantakos, DO, grew up Cedar Rapids, IA. She completed her undergraduate degree at Wartburg College and attended Des Moines University for medical school. She enjoys trying new foods, spending time outside, and watching period piece movies (the more British the better).
Ronald White, DO, is originally from Mt. Hope, WI and he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where he received a bachelors degree in Biology. He worked at Mayo Clinic Health System Eau Claire prior to attending LECOM in Greensburg, PA where he graduated in 2020. He enjoys spending his free time either working at his family's farm or adventuring outdoors alongside his wife.

Class of 2022

Avi Asner, DO Avi Asner, DO, is a 2019 grad from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He received his undergrad from the University of Iowa in 2015. He enjoys weightlifting, camping, hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities.
Alison Fraehlich, MD Alison Fraehlich, MD, is a 2019 grad from the University of Iowa. She received her undergrad degree from Wartburg College. She enjoys reading, photography, traveling, art and cooking.
Kyle Kalra, DO is originally from Texas and graduated medical school from UNTHSC/TCOM. He is your typical Dallas Cowboys fan who enjoys improv and sketch comedy.
Peter Kim, MD Peter Kim, MD, is a 2019 grad from the University of Iowa. He received his undergrad degree from the University of Iowa earning both his BS and MPH degrees. He has extensive research experience and poster presentations. He enjoys intra-mural and pick-up soccer.
Swarna Masala Swarna Masala, MD, Received her medical degree from the University of Health Sciences, Kurnool, India. She enjoys music and is an avid reader.
Jake Walburg, MD Jake Walburg, MD, is a 2019 grad from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. He received his undergrad degree from Drake University.  He enjoys playing piano, running, biking, and trivia.

Class of 2021

Jesicah Ambrisco, DO Jesicah Ambrisco, DO, grew up in Iowa City, Iowa and attended the University of South Carolina Upstate where she played volleyball and completed a B.A. in Education. She, then completed a second Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Sciences at the University of Iowa. After Iowa, she moved to Des Moines, Iowa for medical school. She enjoys being active and spending time outdoors.
Rachel Atherton, MD, grew up in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She completed her undergraduate degree at Central College in Pella, Iowa, and went to medical school at the University of Iowa. She enjoys traveling, cooking, baking, and spending time with her husband, dog, and family.
Bindi Chokshi, MD Bindi Chokshi, MD, grew up in Titusville, Florida. She graduated from the University of South Florida with a major in Biomedical Sciences and minor in Biomedical Physics. She then went on to receive her medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine. She has also earned an MBA in Multi-sector Healthcare Management. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, and watching movies.

Howsare

Danielle Howsare, DO, grew up in Iowa City, IA. She attended University of Northwestern-St. Paul for undergraduate where she completed a B.S. in Biology. She then went on to train at A.T. Still University in Kirksville, MO graduating in 2018. In her free time she enjoys taking her dog for walks, spending time with her family, and watching Iowa Hawkeye sports.

Alan Julius, DO

Alan Julius, DO, is originally from Mason City, IA. After high school, he attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, where he received a bachelors degree in Biology. He then moved back to Iowa for medical school at Des Moines University and graduated in 2018. He tries to spend as much of his free time doing things outdoors. He especially enjoys hunting, fishing, biking, and golfing.

Anna Mark, MD

Anna Mark, MD, is originally from Decorah, IA and completed her undergraduate education at University of Northern Iowa. She attended medical school at the University of Iowa. Her hobbies include reading, baking, travel, and exercising. She enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and two puppies.

Sarah Smith, DO

Sarah Smith, DO, grew up in the small town of Pella, Iowa. She completed her undergrad at the University of Iowa and went to Des Moines University for medical school. She has a large family so whiffle ball and card games were regular occurrences. She loves to be active and enjoys playing softball and volleyball. She also enjoys baking and experimenting with new foods.

Joseph Standard, MD

Joseph Standard, MD, studied nutrition in graduate school before attending medical school, and has an interest in how diet and lifestyle can play such an important role in overall health and wellness. Additionally, he enjoys the puzzle of medicine in figuring out what steps need to be done to help our patients get better. When not practicing medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family and wife, watching movies and documentaries, playing and watching basketball and soccer, running, and being a part of his local church.
