Different Needs but in the Same Location
You don’t need to be 89 years old, as Carl Freeman is, to understand why he likes independent living at Crosstown Square. Crosstown Square sounds pretty good regardless of your age.
Let Carl count the ways:
No grocery shopping;
No yard work;
No snow shoveling.
But more important than any of those amenities is the understanding that Betty, Carl’s wife of 70 years, is also receiving the care she needs nearby at Illini Restorative Care.
Carl explained that Betty suffered a stroke several years ago. Her memory began to fail. After looking at various options, they chose Crosstown Square three years ago.
“The best decision we could have made,’’ Carl explained. “I can live independently here at Crosstown Square and Betty receives the care she needs from Illini Restorative Care (IRC).
“We can just relax and enjoy each other more.’’
Carl drives and is able to attend Rotary meetings and get to the YMCA to exercise. When he is at home at Crosstown Square, he spends a lot of time with Betty.
“Now that Betty is in assisted living at IRC, it is really a help and convenience to have all of our health needs met under the same roof,’’ Freeman said. “I know Betty is getting great care because I am with her a lot and I see the care she is receiving.
“The staff here is outstanding and very accommodating.’’
Carl explained that he and Betty researched what was available and at what cost.
“We looked at a number of alternative senior housing situations and found Crosstown Square to be very competitive with other independent living facilities in the area,’’ Carl said. “Taking everything into account, it’s very easy to say we enjoy living here. We have a number of friends who live here and we have new friends we’ve made since moving here.
“I would recommend Crosstown Square to anyone looking for independent living in the area.’’
Carl Freeman has been able to watch the transformation of Crosstown Square take place during a $450,000 renovation. Virtually every feature of the facility has been updated.
It was natural for the Freemans to choose a Genesis facility when they were researching senior living options. Carl has been a loyal supporter and volunteer of Genesis Medical Center, Silvis, formerly Illini Hospital, and served as a hospital board member.
